Globasnica / Globasnitz

Two fallen Slovenian partisans rest in the local cemetery in Globasnica / Globasnitz. The first is Viktor Pisar-Jak, killed at Pečnik in Slovenje / Slowenjach, where he was visiting homes with activist Janko Kuster-Korošec from Žitara vas / Sittersdorf with leaflets and other Liberation Front literature. On the street they met a younger man who pretended to be seeking contact with the partisans. But he was from the Gestapo; when Pisar turned his back to him, he drew his revolver and shot him in the neck. He also shot at Kuster, but did not hit him. The body of the killed partisan was buried near Pečnik farm, where he remained from August 1943 till the end of the war. He was then moved to the Globasnica / Globasnitz cemetery. Viktor Pisar-Jak was 22 years young and came from Kotlje near Ravne, where he had served as a farmhand.
All that is known about the second partisan buried in the Globasnica / Globasnitz cemetery is his combat name Jug. He was about 25 years old and came from Gorenjska. In Slovenje / Slovenjach, he stood guard for a group of activists and fighters who were holding a meeting at Gradišnik with the secretary of the Liberation Front for Velikovec / Völkermarkt, Stane Mavrič. When the house was surrounded by the police, he warned the comrades in the house with a signal shot, but was immediately killed by the police with several shots. Everyone in the house was able to escape to safety, only the partisan Amalija Oraže-Tatjana, a youth activist from Pliberk / Bleiburg district, was injured. The farmer Krupec who lived not far from Sv. Hema / Hemmaberg took care of her untill she was healthy again.

They came twice

Globasnica / Globasnitz was visited twice by the partisans. The first time was on January 3, 1944, when a unit of the East Carinthian detachment attacked the police station in Globasnica / Globasnitz, destroying the post office and the Heimatbund building; two Germans were killed and five were wounded. On April 6, 1944, the partisans came to Globasnica / Globasnitz once again, cut the telephone lines and temporarily occupied the municipal building and the post office. The municipal secretary hid in the chimney; the partisans requisitioned flour, sugar and other things. In the Hitler Youth house, French war-prisoners tore up German flags and assured the partisans that they would join them in spring. The partisans distributed literature and leaflets throughout the village, then retreated organised in three columns.

Location:
Globasnica / Globasnitz lies below the Peca / Petzen mountain in the heart of Podjuna / Jauntal, roughly halfway between Dobrla vas / Eberndorf and Pliberk / Bleiburg. The cemetery is in the center of the village.
