The Association of Carinthian Partisans (ZKP) and the Slovene Cultural Association Edinost in Bleiburg/Pliberk invited participants to the 47th Memorial Hike to Kömmel on 19 July. The meeting point and refreshments for participants were provided in front of the Cultural Centre in Bleiburg/Pliberk. The event opened with a performance by the brass band from Zabukovica (Municipality of Žalec, Slovenia).
At 10:00 a.m., a memorial Mass was celebrated in honor of the fallen Domen Company and the victims of National Socialist violence. This was followed at 12:30 p.m. by a commemorative ceremony at the memorial on Kömmel.
The chairman of the Association of Carinthian Partisans, Nikolaj Orsche, welcomed the large number of visitors. In his address, Janko Malle spoke about the current political situation and the rise of right-wing and fascist parties in Europe and around the world, which he said pose a serious threat to peace.
The keynote address was delivered by the historian and political scientist Peter Pirker, curator of the highly successful exhibition "Hinschaun" ("Poglejmo!") at the Carinthian Provincial Museum in Klagenfurt. The exhibition explored in depth the period of National Socialism and the resistance movement in Carinthia. Members of the Foltej Hartman Men's Choir also paid tribute to the victims through their singing.
